Looking at
what society is today and how different people are treated, it seems
unthinkable the fact the around 50 years ago, anyone who wasn’t white was
mistreated and discriminated. Even when Jackie Robinson entered the MLB in 1947
that little changed. But his legacy on what today is known as sports and how
African Americans now are filling pro leagues, is so legendary. Michael Jordan,
Barry Sanders, Bo Jackson and Kareem Abdul-Jabaar might not have played their
sports as pros if it wasn’t for Jackie Robinson taking a stand for what is
right. When Jackie Robinson joined the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947, there were no
other African-American players in the Major Leagues, and there were hardly any
African-American athletes competing with white athletes in any American sports. He paved the way for what all sports had to come. The legends mentioned earlier and superstars of now like Kevin Durant, Robinson Cano, Richard Sherman and LeBron James wouldn't be playing their sports either. He showed that everyone should be treated as equals. Now, the world is becoming a better place, and Jackie Robinson has strongly influenced us as a human species when it comes to treating others as we would want to be treated.
