Jackie
Robinson wasn’t the only athlete in his family. His older brother Mack was a
sprinter for a junior college in Pasedena. Even though Mack had a heart
condition, he still was selected to the 1936 U.S. Olympic team and clinched 2nd
in the 200-meter dash behind Jesse Owens. After that, Mack went on to set
several records at his junior college. Jackie broke Mack’s long jump record and
was looking to maybe have his own Olympic glory in the 1940 Olympics, but they
were cancelled due to WWII. He was married and had 3 children with his wife Rachel Isum, whom he married on February 10, 1946.
